You cannot get into any university or business school without first navigating the admissions process. But how exactly does the Glion admissions process work? And what does it involve as you take each step towards campus? Who better to ask than someone who has been there and done it: Student Ambassador Diego Cascante? Here’s his personal take…
At Glion, the admissions process is very different from most universities. You are provided with personalized, individual service from the moment you submit your application to when you arrive in Switzerland or the UK.
Remembering back to when I was soon to be graduating in high school, I recall being thrown off by all the complicated application forms, different standardized tests and admission requirements from other hospitality schools. But Glion’s application was made very simple and straightforward.
As soon as you enquire about the programs at Glion, you are assigned a personal Educational Counselor. He or she explains to you in detail what the admission requirements for your program of interest are. Your counselor will also guide you through the application process.
In Glion, there is no official application period; instead, there’s a rolling admission process that allows you to start the process when you’re ready. The intakes happen twice a year, in March and October. By the time you actually start your program, you must have graduated from high school or your country’s equivalent. With over 90 nationalities on campus, your educational counselor is there to guide you and to know what the high school equivalent is in your home country.
Furthermore, as English is the language of instruction on campus, you must be fluent in English. If this is not your first language, or you have not completed the last two years of your education in an English-speaking school, you will need to show proof of an English qualification.
“I must note that Glion takes a holistic approach in you as individual, rather than just another high school graduate.
You will most likely go through a personal interview with the Program’s manager or director. You will have the opportunity to talk about your interests, what drives you and what your ambitions are for after you graduate.”
You are not a number
However, at this point I must note that Glion takes a holistic approach in you as individual, rather than just another high school graduate. You will most likely go through a personal interview with the Program’s manager or director. You will have the opportunity to talk about your interests, what drives you and what your ambitions are for after you graduate.
Even though applications are open year round, I suggest applying as soon as possible. Firstly, you might need a student visa. I had to apply for one; this process tends to take from a few weeks to several weeks, so it’s important that you start the process with enough time. Once your dossier has been reviewed and your acceptance processed, you will receive all the necessary documents to submit to your embassy. As always, the International Enrolment Team and your Educational Counselor will also support you and provide any documents that may be requested from you.
Around this time, you will be granted access to the online accommodation booking system. You will be able to reserve your accommodation and even find your roommate.
Likewise, you can request to join our New Students Group on WhatsApp, where you can find out who will be your future classmates. Also, keep an eye open for any Pre-Arrival Webinars or Instagram Lives – they will most likely answer all your common questions.
Once everything is ready you are set to travel to Switzerland or the UK. As I mentioned, the Glion admission process is very straightforward and, thanks to the individual support, you are given personalized attention every step of the way.
